How's the drought in Oklahoma??

The heart of Oklahoma is baking, but on the upside, besides issuing another heat advisory the Health Dept. says it is now safe to eat roadkill, as long it's been out there forty-five minutes.

The drought is so bad in Oklahoma, I heard that some Baptist are doin Baptisms by Sprinkling, The Methodist are usin…

Get a Life

What does the Bible say about moving on? Many times, because of loss in our lives, we have had events that affected our physical and psychological well being. The loss of a job, the breaking of a friendship, a couple breaks up, or a family argument causes a great divide between once close relationships. How do we cope with such loss?

Recently I was reading about dealing with loss in the work place. Today many Americans are out of work with no job prospects in sight. Having…

The Mouse trap

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall

to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

"What food might this contain?", the mouse wondered.

He was devastated to discover that it was a mouse trap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed this warning :"There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"The chicken clucked and scratched,…

The two wolves

An old Cherokee told his grandson, "My son, there's a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies, & ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, & truth." The boy thought about it & asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?" The old Cherokee quietly replied, "The one you feed."

"just once more"

How many times in a day do We find ourselves just getting tired of people? We look at the caller I.D.  and say, "Ugh, not her/him again!" or we see a FB post and say "geez, that's like their 9th post today!?!" or Heaven forbid, they drive up in your driveway when your just getting home from work.

Thinking on this has made me realize how very thankful I am  that God is not like that with us; that He has never gotten so fed up with me and the times I've made a mess of my life and came… Continue

Serenity Prayer

Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference

You do not have to be religious to allow this to help you. Just think of it this way, there are some things that you cannot change. Instead of stressing over the things that you can’t change you need to stop and think about it. If you can’t change it then accept it and find a way to live with it. If the thing that is causing you stress is…

On June 10, 2011 I dropped my daughter Emily off at horse camp, it would be her first time staying the night away from me w/anyone but my Mother or a family member, but I wasn't worried, the lady who owns and runs the camp is someone I have always and still think the world of. And Emily would be bunking in a tent her Uncle loaned her with one of her best little friends. The other girls Mother and I got everything set up and I…

WHATTA YA KNOW? (1Jn_2:3): KEEP is a mariner’s word. When a man is on the sea he would keep his eye on the stars and steer the ship by them. The commandments are the standard by which I chart my course.

This does not mean the man could not be blown off course, or might not over-steer or nod at the wheel or be distracted or somehow fail to keep a perfect course. But the aim,…

Cowboy Gospel Hour

I am the host of the Cowboy Gospel Hour (cowboygospelhour.com), the program is a weekly (unless God tells me to produce more than one that week :) ) broadcast available for listening at the website or as a podcast. The show combines Christian Country Music (I'd like more bluegrass), a scripture reading and a message for those who are trying to get through today.  The messages by themselves (no music) are posted for broadcast at texascowboychurch.com.

I am always looking for…

Who Are You?

Often, I have heard is said that character is who a person is when no one else is around.  I tend to disagree as this statement is only partly true.  Character is who a person is all the time.  It is a product of a lifetime.  Someone said that "character is a quality of life.  As such, it affects personality, attitudes, and life standards."

Who was Peter?  He was a man that you wanted on your side.  If there was a squabble over fishing rights or a heavy catch that needed hauling…

MERITS OF THE BLOOD

The “empty tomb” (Matt. 28:1-7; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-12; John 20:1-10) is a reality, and the cornerstone of our faith. Without the empty tomb, all preaching would be a waste of time. Paul the apostle emphasizes this in I Corinthians 15. He explains who Christ is: How He died for our sins (I Cor.…
