1 Samuel 15:23
"For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry..."

You might as well practice witchcraft
If in rebellion you dwell
For both of them alike
Will surely send you to hell

And stubbornness is no better
The Bible says it is sin
So if you find yourself being stubborn
You will have to repent again

The A B C's of Salvation

ADMIT to God that you are a sinner. All persons need salvation. Each of us has a problem the Bible calls sin. Sin is a refusal to acknowledge God's authority over our lives. Everyone who does not live a life of perfect obedience to the Lord is guilty of sin. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Since none of us is perfect, all of us are sinners (Romans 3:10-18).
The result of sin is spiritual death (Romans 6:23) Spiritual death means eternal separation form God. By God's perfect standard we are quilty of sin and therefore subject to the punishment for sin, which is separation from God. Admitting that you are a sinner and separated form God is the first step of repentance, which is truning form sin and self and turning toward God.

BELIEVE in Jesus Christ as God's Son and receive Jesus' gift of forgiveness from sin. God loves each of us. God offers us salvation. Although we have done nothing to deserve His love and salvation, God wants to save us. In the death of Jesus on the cross, God provided salvation for all who would repent of their sins and believe in Jesus. "For God loved the world in this way. He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16)

CONFESS your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord to others. After you have received Jesus Christ into your life, share your decision with another person. Tell your pastor or a Christian friend about your decision. Following Christ's example, ask for baptism by immersion in your local church as a public expression of your faith. "If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord', and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation" (Romans 10:9-10).

Galatians 4:29
"But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now."

There are ministries born of the flesh
And ministries born of the Spirit
The Lord will show you the difference
If the still small voice, you can hear it

But if you rely on your senses
What you see and what you hear
You could be led astray
And that we all should fear

JUST FOR TODAY: Feel good about yourself?

1 John 2:1, "....these things write I unto you, that ye sin not."  Preachers preach unto you for the same reason that John wrote unto you- that you would not sin.  I have heard folks use the excuse that they don't go to church anymore because they got tired of coming home not feeling good about them selves.  Preachers are not supposed to preach to make you feel good about yourself.....and they are not supposed to preach to make you feel bad about yourself either.  The Gospel of Jesus Christ is "Good News".  If we hear it preached and we don't feel good about ourselves, whose fault is that??    The Gospel of Christ will NEVER change.....maybe it is us who need to make some changes! Hmmmmm?  ~Walker

Luke 9:1
"Then He called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases."

Let us never forget
We have power over all devils
And remember with joy
We can defeat him on all levels

He's like a barking dog
Tied to a stake
He can make a lot of noise
But only what we give him, can he take

Mark 4:40
"And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful?  How is it that ye have no faith?"

We fear what men will do
We forget they have no power
And can do nothing to us
For even a single hour

Lest it be given them
By the God of all might
Who could let them trouble us
But will never let them win the fight

JUST FOR TODAY: God has planted the disire for perfection in the heart of every human.  This is a good desire, but it is one that only God can fulfill for He is the only one that is perfect.  The problem lies when we try to seek the fulfillment of perfection in other people, earthly pleasures, or wealth.  These things become idols in our life and we bow down to them.  This is breaking one of the ten commandment.  God said in Exodus 20:3, "I will have no other gods before me."  If you will focus on the Lord Jesus, and make Him the deepest desire of the your heart, He will fulfill all the longing in your heart for perfection. "Thys saith the Lord God; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing."

Some of them have a vision
Some have a word
Some of the are real
Others from God, have not heard

In order to know the difference
We must hide the word in our heart
So that from the TRUE God
We will know not to depart

FROM THE PASTOR'S PORCH: Out of the River of Sin!!

My good friend and great preacher, Bobby Boyles, told me a story about how he and his little brother went down to the river one day to play on their swing and do a little swimming.  When they got down to their favorite spot.  Bobby's little brother spotted a big old yeller tom cat snoozing away.... way up on the branch to which they had their swing tied.  Little brother said, “watch this....”.  You know anytime a kid says, “watch this” to another kid, they are up to no good.  Well, little brother starts pulling on that rope swing to bend that branch down, and of course Bobby joined in to help him. When they had that branch bent down a good bit, little brother whispered, “ let it go.”

That big yeller tom cat then became the world's first cat astronaut!  He went sailing way up in the air and when he came back down he landed right in the middle of the river.  Now what do you think the next thing that cat did?    Why, he got out of that water just as fast as he could!  Cats don't like water and they don't hang around playin' in it either.  Now if that cat had just stayed out in the river, put on his sun glasses, and started doin' the back stroke with a big smile on his face, you might wonder if he was a cat at all?  A real cat would not behave in that manner.

A real Christian will not behave in that manner either if they fall into the River of sin, and it happens to all of us at times doesn't it?  Well, doesn't it??  Of course it does.  1 John 1:8 says, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”  But it also says in verse 8, “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (KJV)

So what does all this mean.  It means if you are a real Christian, when you fall  into the river of sin, you won't put on your sun glasses, start doin' the back stroke, and sippin' on a cold beer for long periods of time.  It means you will get out of the river of sin as quick as you possible can and ask the Lord to forgive you.  If you say you Love the Lord on Sunday, but you live in sin the rest of the weak, you are a liar and you better re-evaluate where you stand with the Lord.

My prayer for you today is that you will walk in the light with Jesus. Jesus is the light of life and there is no darkness in him.  If you keep your focus on Him and walk with Him, there will be no darkness in you either!!  It is very hard to fall into the river of sin when walk with the Lord, but if you do......GET OUT OF THERE!!  If you are a real Christian, then act like one.  There is no greater Joy on earth than walking in the Light of His Love!!  Thanks for reading the Pastor's Porch and have a blessed day.  ~Walker

Do not owe anyone anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fufilled the law.
Romans 13:8

Love ultimately fulfills every law of God. It persuades us to live out all that is good and forbids us from doing all that is evil. Every act of hatred, subtle deception, or plot of unfaithfulness is vetoed when love takes command in our hearts.Love toward God leads us to obey Him and uphold His righful place of honor in our lives. If we do so, we will by default not sin against His name. Love toward others transforms our behavior for the better and defuses evil intentions, like light dispels darkness.
Men who lead by love won't deceive or degrade their wives or their neighbors. When love fills a woman's mouth, she encourages her family instead of tearing them down. When you're focused on love, you will naturally demonstrate patience, tenderness, and kindness. Rather than trying to manufacture right actions and attitudes, let love become your first response and your default position. Then you're set to launch into any circumstance greaciously and to land with no regrets.

JUST FOR TODAY: Worry and Fear will never give up trying to gain a foothold in your life. That's why you must always stay alert by keeping Jesus the center of your life. You CAN beat back Worry and Fear by Trusting Jesus and being Thankful at all times. This is the only way to conquer the sin of Worry and Fear. You can never realize how much God Loves you until you stay focused on Him. Only then can he bless you with His wonderful Peace that is beyond your understanding. Love Him, Trust him and be Thankful ALL the time; there has never been a better defensive line than this!! (2 Thessalonians 3:16, 1 John 4:18) ~Walker

Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13

Love is fundamental to the success of any relationship. Not your current feelings of a stronger financial standing or even the behavior of those you love. All of these can circumstantially change, and they will. But when storms rise and conditions worsen, love-driven relationships endure and work through even the toughest issues without giving up!
When relationships crumble, people often caim that it was due to their irreconcilable differences. But genuine love is a master at reconciliation. When love takes over, it compels us to humbly apologize and take full responsibility for our failures, then to fully forgive where our friends have failed us. Over and over again.
Resilient relationships are built on honesty, respect, commitiment, forgiveness, and endurance. And love constantly inspires all of these to grow and thrive within us. Through love reaches far beyond a relationship, it is a God-given key to it's success.

"Lord teach me what real love is and make me a loving person"!

JUST FOR TODAY: "....continue in Him (Jesus), so that when He appears, we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming" (1 John 2:28). To "continue in Jesus, you must stay focused on HIM. Think (meditate) on Him and His ways, learn from Him by reading His Word, comunicate with Him in your prayers (about all things), Love on Him with your Worship, and Take pride in Him by telling others bout Him. If you do these things (focus and continue), how in the world could you possibly get into trouble by falling into sin. This is how to walk in the light. Remember that when you walk with Jesus, there is no darkness in Him!! This means there will be no darkness in you. ~Walker

The Drop of a Hat

I came across the following prayer some years ago. Thought this day would be a good day to share it. When things come our way, and that will most inevitably happen the important thing is that we face it with honesty. The motives behind our actions tell others who will really are inside.

A Cowboy’s Prayer

Our gracious and heavenly Father,

We pause in the midst of this festive occasion,

mindful and thoughtful of the guidance that ;you have given us.

As cowboys, Lord, we don’t ask for any special favors,

we ask only that you let us compete in the arena, as in life’s arena.

We don’t ask to never break a barrier, or to draw a round of steer that’s hard to throw,

or a chute fighting horse, or a bull that is impossible to ride.

We only ask that you help to compete as honest as the horses we ride

and in a manner as clean and pure as the wind that blows across this great land of ours.

So when we do make that last ride that is inevitable for us all to make,

to that place up there, where the grass is green and lush and stirrup high,

and the water runs cool, clear, and deep--

You’ll tell us as we ride in -- that our entry fees have been paid.

These things we ask -- Amen.

(Clem McSpadden)

Folks, for sure the entry fee has been paid, but we often do not accept it. That payment was one of redemption on the Cross of Calvary by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

D. Adkisson

"God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God."

If you will give you cares and worries to Him, He will give you His Peace. Do not get trapped or enslaved by the man-made rules of Religion. Do not focus on your performance, it will never be "good enough" and only cause you to struggle harder and fall into despair; instead, focus on Jesus Himself. It is only through a Loving RELATIONSHIP with Him that you will become like Him. Relax, let go, and He will show you that He IS your God. ( Psalm 46:10, 1 John 3:2) ~Walker
