FROM THE PASTOR'S PORCH: Daddy is always working!!
One of the things I remember most about my Daddy was that he was always working. When I was very little, I remember he worked in the oil patch and then came home and worked around our eighty-acre home place. Seems like he was always fixing fence or taking care of cattle or gathering eggs, or something; always working.
Then he built that little gas station 3 ½ miles east of Cement right next to our house back in the early 50's. Those of you who traveled Hwy 277 between Chickasha and Cement in the 50's, 60's, and 70's on any day of the week would always see my Daddy in his solid blue or striped overalls and khaki shirt pumping gas seven days a week. He worked all the time. The only time he closed that station was for a funeral, and that had to be a very close relative....that he liked.
Some folks used to worry about my Daddy getting robbed, off out there in the country, but most people knew better than to mess with Louis Walker. Daddy didn't have a cash register; he carried his wallet and his change in his front pocket to make change for the customers. But if you looked real close you could also see the butt of his old S&W .38 chief special sticking out of the pliers pocket of those old overalls. My Daddy worked hard to make a living for his family and he was able and more than willing to protect what he worked hard to make. I am thankful that Momma finally got him to close up on Sundays and go to church with her in his later years. My Daddy passed away in April of 1986, and I'm pretty sure when he got to Heaven one of the first things he probably did was ask the Lord, “Have ya got anything you need me to do?”.
Funny thing about it is, God probably put him to work doing something!! Some folks think when we get to Heaven we will just lay around on a cloud and play a harp or something. My Daddy wasn't much of a harp player. I'm not sure what all is going on in Heaven, because I haven't been there yet, but I do know that Jesus said the same thing about His Daddy that I've said about my earthly Daddy. Jesus said that His Father was always working and that He was working as well.
My earthly Father worked hard to make a living for his family, but why does our Heavenly Father work all the time? Have you ever thought about how much work it takes to make Romans 8:28 a reality?? “ALL things work for good for those who Love the Lord and are called according to his purpose...” The sin of mankind in this old fallen world is what keeps our Heavenly Father working so hard to make it all work out for good in the end. Why does God even care about things working out for our good? Same reason my Daddy worked so hard to make a living- He Loves us. Please get the Revelation today of just how much God Loves you and then be thankful for it. You can cast your burdens on the Lord and seek His Peace in your life today because HE LOVES YOU..... Daddy is ALWAYS working and He will protect what He has worked for. I would like to stay and visit with you awhile, but I've got to go to work. Blessings, ~Walker

JUST FOR TODAY: People many times don't understand God, don't see God working in their life to their expectations, and therefor believe God has failed.....but He hasn't. God, on the other hand, completely understands people, He is constantly working in all of our lives, and He NEVER fails. If you don't understand God, maybe you should pray about that and read the manual, the Holy Bible. If you don't see God working in your life, maybe you should pray about that and ask Him to open your Spiritual eyes. If you think God has failed you in some way, maybe you should pray about that and ask Him for the Revelation that when your will doesn't line up with His will, that doesn't make HIM a failure. Cast your burdens on the Lord in prayer and seek His Peace Today. (Psalm 55:22) ~Walker

JUST FOR TODAY: Do you "Reckon" that you are really "dead indeed to sin," (Romans 6:11). If so, then you must find the life of Jesus in you ALL the time. "The Holy Spirit cannot be accepted as a guest in merely one room of the house-He invades ALL of it." ~Oswald Chambers. Once you decide your "old man" of sin must be crucified with Jesus, the Holy Spirit takes charge of EVERYTHING. Now you have a new goal in life; and your job is to walk in the light of Jesus and obey all that His Spirit reveals to you. The proof of a true relationship with Jesus is when you start showing a definite likeness to Him. Who do you look like today? ~Walker
"Living is something that should be real. We should take it as best we can, as deep and wide and full as we can. We shouldn't ever be small or ever be afraid."

Gnats! The little beast, along with a host of companion-like minions, are very annoying. They bite, fly up your nose and crawl in your ears. They flit on your skin and get in your hair. Open your mouth and they even become a morsel not of which is very tasty. Even when they don't bite they just drive a person nuts by swarming around their head. I've seen them hang over a person like a dark cloud poised to rain.
What does a person do about them? Because they are so small and seemingly harmless the first thing is to try and ignore them. That's like trying to ignore an itch; the more you try to put it out of your mind, the more it itches and the more you want to scratch (shades of Huck Finn). So ignoring them is impossible.
The next step is bug spray: Off, Deep Woods, DEET, or anything else that you think will work. I've heard that rancid bear grease is a good remedy; that will also keep the bears away and any one that you might call friend. Remember to spray it on the hand, not the face. Ever had a mouthful of insect repellant? Spit, spit and more spit and it still in it seeps. Spray a dab on your hand and rub in on the face, the ears; no, don't put it up your nose. Yeah, now don't you feel good. The skin is all moist, clammy and greasy. Are the gnats gone? No, they still hover just above your head with a brave one now and then diving through the shield of pesticides.
Then there are the special cures. The people in the Susquehanna Valley region have some vicious gnats. Their trick is to light a punk stick and put it in your mouth. Probably New Agers in the region would use incense or other odors so as not to harm the little bugs, but to give them the right karma. Some might prefer the method used by Annie's uncle. He would get one of the smelliest stogies, light up and the vermin wouldn't come close to him. If the gnats didn't get to you the smell of the cigar would.
Makes me think of all the little annoyances that come in life. There are some that we just can't get rid of until the season of their life is over. Little gnawing things that we try different methods to get rid of them, but nothing seems to work. However, usually we don't even notice, soon they are gone. We notice when they are there, but we don't seem to notice when they leave. How like that are we with God. We notice the irritations when they come, but when God removes them we often don't notice and we simply go on our way.

JUST FOR TODAY: JESUS is the Potter and YOU are the clay. Have you allowed His Holy Spirit to guide you and mold you to be ALL that He wants you to be? Have you been moldable and obedient to all of His ways and His Word? If your world is turbulent and out of control, it may well be because you have said NO to the Potter. Maybe it's time to have that little talk with Jesus. Tell him all about your troubles and let Him guide through treacherous times. As you move through life with Jesus, allow him to use all circumstances to mold you into what He desires you to be. Say "YES" to the Potter as you go through this day. (Isaiah 64:8) ~Walker

"When I survey the wondrous cross,
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride."
--Isaac Watts
"Why do the heathen rage?"
Because of the cross. It was here that Jesus triumphed over evil. The principalities and powers wondered at Him when He walked the earth now they cower before Him and He strides victoriously. The conquest was predicted in the Garden and now was complete at the Cross.
The demons ran before Christ when He walked this earth. He bound them, He cast them out and now, at the Cross they are conquered. The powers of darkness have been routed; death and the grave defeated! Look at how Paul describes the victory.
"He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its
regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away,
nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a
public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross." (Colossians 2:13-15,
NIV)
"Why do the heathen rage, and the peoples plot in vain?"
The atheist cannot get ride of God. His very fight shows that there is a God or he would simply ignore those who say He is real. For 2000 years now the world has been divided because of the Cross. Accept or reject, it all revolves around the Cross.
Kings and rulers have fought the Cross. Upon it was the supreme King, the supreme Ruler of the universe and they see themselves as mere pitiful men when they gaze upon Him. There have been attempts to discredit the truth of the Cross, but they have all come to naught. It continues to stand and they cannot remove their eyes. Attempts will continue with the final one onslaught led by the Antichrist, but in vain, all in vain. The power of the Cross will remain.
It is at these times that we hear laughter from heaven. Evil, darkness, and the powers of the devil thought they could kill and destroy the Son upon this Cross, but instead it brought victory and destruction to the forces of evil.
"The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. Then he
rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath." (Psalm 2:4-5, NIV)
"Why do the heathen rage?"
Instead they should be grateful and bow down for sins are now forgiven because of the Cross. Yet even pseudo-Christians may rage at the demands of the Cross. Many do not want to "count the world but loss," but the Cross demands it. It is this Jesus who says we are to pick up our cross daily and carry it--this we do not like. The Cross causes annoyance; it causes us to forsake the treasures of this world.
But it is this Cross that provided the propitiation. This Cross provided redemption. It will be upon this Cross that we finally will walk over as we enter eternity.
