JUST FOR TODAY: "DO YOU SEEK GREAT THINGS FOR YOURSELF?" ~Jeremiah 45:5. Are you seeking great things for yourself or are you seeking to be a great person? Which do think is the most important to the Lord? God wants you to be more interested in your Relationship with Him than in receiving His gifts. All material things of this world will come and go, but the Spiritual things of God will last for eternity. The greatest thing you can seek is God Himself. Jesus said to "Seek the Kingdom of God, and ALL these other things will be added unto you." There is nothing more simple or easy than getting into a right relationship with God-"Seek and ye shall find" ~Walker
"I'll take my stand,
Go against any man,
And I'll beat his hand or he'll beat mine,
But there's no where to run, no where to run
Against that ol' outlaw Time."
--Bob Nolan (??)
"Many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand,
But I know who holds tomorrow,
And I know who holds my hand."
--Ira Stanphill
My, my, today is the last day of April. It's May already and soon the year will be half over. May--what will it hold, and then the summer? We make our plans, but we msut always be mindful that they may not be that of the Lord's.
If you have read the Paines much you know that I have often dealt with the illusive subject of "time." Time is what changes us, makes us older. With the passing of time new circumstances arise, some that caught us unawares and for which we were not prepared. It is time that brings us face-to-face with the enemy of our natural body. A year ago and I would not have thought that my mom would pass over to the other side at the beginning of the school year. Now, here we are at the end of the school year and the father of my good friends has gone on to meet with the Lord. It all came with the passing of time.
Today a person has a job, and plans are made. Tomorrow, another day, time has passed and things change and that position is no longer there, thus a change of plans must be made. Did time cause it? No, but it came because that time was upon us. Time brings about the growth of children and grand-children.
Let me give a few thoughts to ponder:
--nothing can be done about the passing of time,
--tomorrow is not assured, therefore, make the most of the time you have today,
--God knows the time, He sees through time, time is in His hands--ahhh, but then so are we,
--don't put your trust in time, the future; our trust must be in the Lord.
D. Adkisson
"Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever."

JUST FOR TODAY: How do you feel today? Are you "in season" and ready to do your best for the Lord, or are you "out of season" and don't "feel" like even doing anything for yourself, let alone the Lord? "The best that you can do" may vary from day to day depending on your health or other circumstances, but what must NOT vary is your willingness to do it. If you do only what you feel inclined to do, you might not do anything! "Be ready in season and out season." (2 Timothy 4:2) Please pray today for all those who are feeling "out of season" due to sickness or injury. ~Walker

"But some men--a few out of the many wanderers--find God out here in the wilds. Maybe you will."
--Zane Grey
"The desert stamps a man."
--Zane Grey
The wilderness will definitely mark you. It may be a wilderness of the mind and soul, or of drought and dryness, or of the cold bringing you a chill, or the confusion of the jungles. One thing for sure when a person faces and enters a wilderness life, thought, actions, and beliefs will never be the same. To survive and learn from the ordeal, no matter the length of time, is to begin to understand your soul and your God. The shame is that some do not survive; it is up to you.
Woe to that person who is able to leave the wilderness and yet did not learn the lessons that were there. Whether is be of shallow mind, of weak soul, or feebleness of body those men are poor indeed. To ignore, or misunderstand, or scorn the lessons is to give oneself over to the ways of the world where the thorns may choke out the life that was once there. However, the man seeking, yearning, and learning will find God. They will find direction for their life. They will find strength for their soul. They will gain confidence that they can survive and will develop hope and faith in their God for He will touch them in ways that others cannot understand.
I have often pondered the first action of Jesus after His baptism was to enter the wilderness. For forty days he became a wanderer of the wastelands. Even more amazing was the He, the Son of God, went to this terrible region to be tested. The testing was severe. His body, His soul, and His spirit were put through a terrible ordeal in the wilderness. He faced the wasteland, but His soul was able to find nourishment. He faced the enemy of man's soul, the avowed enemy of His Father, and He overcame. He faced the beasts, and the obstacles of the wilderness, and was then ministered to by angels. He went to meet with His Father, yet we balk at the same opportunity because of the fierceness of the ordeal.
Woe to those that have the opportunity to enter this special, yet fearsome, place to find God and seek what He has for them. Woe to those who are afraid of the rigors and the requirements for in reality they are afraid of the touch of God.
D. Adkisson
"Immediately the Holy Spirit compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness. He was there for forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was out among the wild animals, and angels took care of him."

The Good Lord has designed and engineered people to have a longing to belong. Just look at all the clubs, organizations, teams, and groups that we belong to. I remember starting to school at Cement, Oklahoma and I spent twelve years with my class. That class that graduated in 1968 was my class and I belonged to it. I had a Sunday School class that I belonged to. I had the Boy Scouts that I belonged to. I had baseball and basketball teams that I belonged to. I belonged to the FFA and Beta Club in high school. I belonged to the National Fraternity of Student Musicians. The list just goes on and on because it's just a natural tendency that we all have. We all want to belong to something.
Why did God build the need to belong into our character? If we look at the animal kingdom, we see that many of them have the desire to belong as well. For animals, it is not just a social thing. They run in packs, herds, and flocks because there is safety in numbers. Maybe that's the key for us as well. When we are members of a tribe or nation there is safety in numbers from animals and other groups of people, but I think there is something much more to belonging than just the benefits we see in the physical world.
“In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member BELONGS to ALL the others” (Romans 12:5). This scripture clearly shows us that we not only are designed to belong to Him, but also we are to belong to each other. Paul is writing here to tell us what church is really all about. Christ is the head of the church and we as believers make up the body of Christ. If you are “in Christ”, a believer, then you really don't have the options to belong or not to belong to the body of Christ. In other words, there ain't no Lone Ranger Christians!
I know that some of you are reading this and going over all the excuses why you don't attend and belong to a church. Well you can stop that right now and quit trying to make God out to be a liar. God says that YOU are a member of HIS Body and that makes you belong to him and it also makes you belong to all the other members. That belonging to all the other members is what gets us. We get self-centered about it and think we can have a Relationship with God without having a Relationship with others. I'm sorry about that, but that's just not the way God planned it.
Please read Romans 12:5 again. Especially the part that says, “EACH MEMBER BELONGS TO ALL THE OTHERS”. Now make yourself a promise that you are going to get up Sunday morning and go to church somewhere. There are many, many good churches in this community and I'm sure you can find one that suits you. My prayer for you today is that you will never forget who you belong to and that you will be obedient to God's Word. If you don't have a home church, please visit us here at COWBOY COUNTRY CHURCH. ~Walker

JUST FOR TODAY: Build your Faith today on the light that never fades away. That light is Jesus Christ and he will never leave you or fail you. If you put your Faith in anything else you are in for disappointment. People that used to be a light for you will flicker and fade away. Some who have stood by you in the begining will eventually turn away. Do not be discouraged when this happens. This is God's way of telling you to move on to bigger and better assignments. Keep your focus where it really belongs; ON HIM!! (2 Corinthians 3:18) ~Walker

"The desert is a place for secrets, and it's a lonely place where a man learns to read the souls of men--when he meets them."
--Zane Grey
"They cannot scare me with their empty spaces between stars--on stars where no human race is. I have it in me so much nearer home to scare myself with my own desert places."
--Robert Frost
One of the dangers of finding oneself in the wilderness is not listening to wise advice. An arrogant attitude is very dangerous in an environment that will soon sap the strength from even the strong of me, an environment that will quickly humble the proud. The key to survival is to listen to sound advice, before entering and especially while in the wilderness, and to not fight the surroundings, but to learn to live with them.
Even the best of men can succumb to the harshness of the wilderness. Unless there is depth of character a journey of several days may mean disaster. Those deep inner resources of the soul are like the hidden tanks found in the lava beds of the wilderness, or the dripping springs back in the darkness of the caves in the canyons. They are there, but a person must find them; they must know where to look. Many enter the wilderness with the haughty attitude of narcisstic pride--"I can take care of myself;" "I can handle whatever comes my way." They will soon be humbled and if not careful, casualties of the terrible wasteland in which they find themselves.
Many a person enters the wilderness and find suddenly, because they have not been paying attention, that they are lost. Not all that enter that vastness of God's terrible wasteland come out alive. They say they know it all, but soon they are depleted of knowledge. They are given sound advice, but will not heed. They are given directions, but seek short cuts and often find that they now have lost all sense of direction. The same is true for their soul. Do not, I repeat, do not dare to take short cuts in the wilderness in which God has seen fit to place you. There are no short cuts in the journey that God's has prepared. There are no short cuts in the path that winds through the wilderness.
D. Adkisson
"For the sons of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, that is, the men of war who came out of Egypt, perished because they did not listen to the voice of the LORD, to whom the LORD has sworn that He would not let them see the land which the LORD had sworn to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey."
--Joshua 8:15 (NASB)

JUST FOR TODAY: We all get advice on how we should spend quiet time with the Lord, and this truly is very good advice, but Jesus want to be in touch and in control of your life ALL the time. He has so many things that he wants to communicate with you such as people and situations that are in need of prayer. That is why we must continually walk with Jesus; not only in the quiet times, but also through the times of distraction and business. You cannot communicate and Trust Jesus part-time. This will cause you to miss out on many opportunities to pray for others and change the course of history. Think about that for a moment....... yes, YOUR prayers could change the course of History!! ~Walker (John 8:36, Proverbs 19:21, and John 10:27)

God will never lead you to a task and not empower and equip you to complete it!! Knowledge and Power are yours when you spend time with the Lord. When you spend time in His Presence you will find fullness of joy, and at His right hand there are pleasures for evermore!! (Psalm 16:11) ~Walker
