JUST FOR TODAY: I am always my happiest when I am trusting God. I am able to do that because He is able take care of any situation that arises in my life. He always has and He always will. That's because HE is always Faithful and HE Loves me. Why should I worry just because somebody else thinks that I ought to?? Why would I insult God by thinking He's not a "big enough" God to take care of me, my family, and my church?? I refuse to worry because my God is more than plenty "BIG ENOUGH"!!! Thank you, Lord, for being my refuge and my strength!!! ~Pastor Lynn

JUST FOR TODAY: Funny thing about TRUST. The more you do it, the better you get at it. And the better you get at Trusting God, the more he empowers you to join Him in His work and become all that He intended for you to be. TRUST is one of those "Spiritual Treasures" that Jesus told us to "lay up (deposit) in Heaven (Matthew 6:21). For many years I thought that if I laid up treasures in Heaven..., I would have to die and go to Heaven to get access to all those "Treasures". Isn't that silly?? I finally got the Revelation that God would never ask you to deposit precious Spiritual Treasures with Him and then not give you access to them when you needed them here on earth!! Trusting Jesus during the good and easy times is like putting money in the bank. When times get hard and tough, God will allow you to make withdrawals of Trust from your Heavenly account to get you through any circumstance. GOD IS GOOD!!!! ~Pastor Lynn

JUST FOR TODAY: "May your whole Spirit, Soul, and Body be preserved blameless........ (1 Thessalonians 5:23) The same Spirit that fed the life of Jesus Christ will feed the life of our Spirit. It is only when we are protected by God with the miraculous sacredness of the Holy Spirit that our Spirit, Soul, and Body can be preserved in pure uprightness until the coming of Jesus....No longer condemned in God's sight. We should more frequently allow our minds to meditate on these great, massive truths of God!! ~Oswald Chambers
The Holy Spirit reaches down into our Spirit much futher than just our conscious mind. He changes and cleanses those things that we don't even know about ourselves. God will reach down into the heights and the depths of your Soul to help you discover who you really are and He will help you to realize dreams that you could never possibly live on your own. ~Pastor Lynn

JUST FOR TODAY: Sometimes we look at our mountains as huge problems and barrierers when we should be lookin' at them as Opportunities. We pray for God to REMOVE the mountain, and He can do that, but if He choses not to, we should quit bein' full of Fear and Doubt, start Trusting God and let Him help us CLIMB that mountain. Either way, God will always help you to come out on top!! "God IS our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1) ~Pastor Lynn

JUST FOR TODAY: Hope is much better than worry. Thankfulness and Praise are much better than depression. Heavyness of Spirit is not of the Kingdom of God. Put you Hope in the Lord Jesus and the light of His Love will reach you through the darkness. There are times that we feel so inadequate and we very well may be, but God is not!! Remember Psalms 46:1~ "God IS our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble". Your church will be a lot better church this morning if you are there; show up this morning with Thankfulness and Praise in your heart and come full of Hope; thirsty for a good, long drink of His Living Water. Yes, GIVE HIM PRAISE AND LET THE LIVING WATERS FLOW!!! ~Pastor Lynn

FROM THE PASTOR'S PORCH: Wait and Listen!!

Do you ever think back to when you were a kid and realize how much trouble you caused yourself by not listening to your Daddy? There's a lot more to the words “Father knows best” than just the title of an old TV show! Seems like every time I didn't listen to my Daddy I wound up getting' hurt.

I remember one time goin' coon huntin' with my Daddy when I was a little boy. I took off running in the dark ahead of my Daddy in the woods. Just about the time I heard him holler "WAIT", a low tree limb caught me right between the eyes! My feet went up in the air over my head and the first thing to hit the ground was the back of my head! The next morning I looked like one of the critters that me and them dogs was chasin'.

Another time, when I was about twelve years old, I had saved up a little money, and it just so happened that OTASCO got in a shipment of old army surplus British Infield .303 rifles. I couldn't afford a Winchester or Remington deer rifle, but these babies were on sale for about $12.50!!! I marched in there and plopped down my hard earned $15 or so for one of those rifles and a box or two of ammo. When I got it home, I proceeded to “sporterize” my new treasure to make it look like a real deer rifle; I started removing all the old wood that went all the way to the end of the barrel; this would not only look better but it would also make it lighter. Pretty smart, huh? My Daddy told me, “boy, that wood is on there for a reason. You might not ought to take that off.” But....I didn't listen and I took it off anyway. Of course then I found out the hard way why it was on there. I found me something to shoot at and I rapidly fired a whole clip of ammo through that old rifle. As I started to set my rifle down and lean it up against a tree, I made the mistake of grabbing it by the barrel. Those old rifle barrels were pretty thin and when you fired that high powered ammo through it in a hurry, it gets really, really HOT!!! All that wood on the barrel allowed a soldier to fire the rifle continuously and still be able to carry it without getting' burned!! I blistered the palm of my right hand and all four fingers real bad because I didn't heed my Daddy's warning.

Failure, black eyes, and burned fingers were a sure sign of my impatience, not knowing my own limitations, and not listening to my Daddy. The moral to these stories is: Don't take off running if your Daddy says to wait, and don't go through with your own plans if Daddy says not to do it. If you act on impulse or “feeling” you will get tangled up in difficult and dangerous situations. In other words, don't run before God gives you His direction, and you will have much less heartache and disappointment in your life. If there is any doubt.........WAIT. The Holy Spirit is the only one who can direct the course of your life successfully!! ~Pastor Lynn

I would like to extend an invitation to all my friends to join an exclusive club.

The club membership includes a retirement plan.

When people discover you are a member, people will not see you the same. Some may ask how they can also become a member.

To be accepted as a member you must meet the club leadership. Upon making your request to become a member and accepting the club leadership as your leadership, you will be expected to abide by the club handbook. Every club has to have guidelines. By the way the handbook reads more like a novel than a rule book. Probably why it is the most published and translated book in history.

Don’t worry about struggling with abiding by the handbook. The club leadership is committed to helping you with whatever struggles you face. They want nothing more than to see you succeed.

Like any club there are dues, but to be fair and to make it affordable for all, the leadership has decided the amount of dues will be based on the amount of each member’s income.

Oh and the retirement program, there is no additional charge for it. It comes with your membership. And as you will learn, the retirement program is out of this world.

There is nothing you have to do to earn your way or prove yourself worthy to become a member. Just come as you are and meet our leader.

His name is Jesus. He paid the price and by His grace, you are made worthy to be known as a Christian. Just call on the name of Jesus. Confess you are a sinner. Ask for forgiveness. Ask Jesus to be the Lord of you life and commit to follow Him for the rest of your life.

If you did that, you are a child of God known as a Christian. Your retirement awaits you in Heaven, but while you are still here on this earth, be an active member and go recruit more members.

Go with God and be blessed.

JUST FOR TODAY: A Victorious life is achieved by living a life that is in deep dependance on God. The world looks at Victory as being successful under our own strength, but people who live like that tend to turn away from God. But let's face it, most of us have our share of falling, stumbling and making mistakes. It is through and because of these things we learn to depend on God. "When you cry ou...t, the Lord hears you and delivers you out of your troubles. When your heart is breaking and you have a remorseful Spirit, the Lord is close to you. When your problems are many, the Lord will deliver you out of them ALL!!" (Psalm 34:17-19) Rely on God during the hard times and you will dicsover what true Victory really is. ~Pastor Lynn

Excuses Excuses Part 4

Let’s talk about the agnostic.  He doesn’t declare there is no God, but he doesn’t see there is any proof.  He says “No one knows whether there’s a God or not.” But, God said “The heavens declare the Glory of God” He says “No one can tell if the Bible is true.” Gods answer is in Psalm 119:118, “Forever oh lord, thy word is settled in heaven.”  They’ve been hammering away at the bible for a long time, but they haven’t disproved one word or sentence.

Next, let’s look at the excuses of deceit; there are some ways to be deceived.  Number one, Satan will deceive you and tell you lies.  Your heart will sometimes deceive you if you’re not born again and not walking close to God.  So you have to be careful about deception.  Unless we come to the Lord Jesus Christ and by faith accept him, we are going to die in our sins and miss heaven.  Someone else says “I don’t need Jesus or the church; I’m living a good life. I don’t do anything wrong.” The bible says “whoever shall keep the whole law and offend in one point, he is guilty in all” I don’t know of any person who’s kept the whole law but Jesus.  Someone else says “Well, I’ve been baptized and I’m a church member so I don’t need to get saved, I’m alright.” Listen to what God says “Verily, Verily, I say unto you, unless a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Let’s look at the excuses of the unconvicted. “They say, I’m not so bad, I feel good” again, for all has sinned and come short of the glory of God.  Another person says “But I don’t have any feelings” God says “By grace you are saved through faith.”  Don’t rely on feelings.  Another persons says “Well it’s nobody’s business what I do.” The Bible doesn’t say that.  In Romans 14:7, it says “For none of us liveth unto himself and no man dieth unto himself.” Everything we do is God’s business.

Let’s look at some more excuses “I’m not living good enough to be saved.” God’s answer is in Matthew 19.  “But, I haven’t come to call the righteous, but the sinners to repentance.” Another one said “I’d like to get saved but I don’t think I’m strong enough, I couldn’t hold out.” Gods answer is “For I know whom I have believed and then persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed to him that day.”

Let’s talk about those without the knowledge, and their excuses.  “I would like to get saved but I feel like I’ve committed the unpardonable sin.” But God says “Whosoever will call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” Someone says well the Christian life is too hard. The bible says “The way of the transgressions is hard, not the way of the Bible.” Those who have never had their sins forgiven and covered by the blood of Jesus, that’s the hard life.

God has dealt with all of these excuses that you hear when you go out soul winning.  But don’t argue with them, you’ll never win that way, but you can give them some scripture and let God deal with their heart.

Excuses Excuses Part 3

God said you can’t love family more than me.  When he is first, those loved ones will get the very best treatment. So then he bade his servant to go and compel all the people in the streets to come and fill his house. You know what supper this was?  It was the marriage supper of the Lamb.  You can make so many excuses and still miss heaven.  Another Occasion, he called one and the person said “let me go home and bury my dead” He didn’t mean a person had just died, he meant “let me stay home until my father or mother dies and after I bury that one, I’ll come.” But the Lord says “Let the dead bury the dead.” There are some things the world can do that Christians can’t do.  The world can bury the dead but they can’t lead people to Christ because they don’t know Him.

Let’s look at the excuse of the atheist. An atheist is one who flat says “There is no God.”  They have no hope of tomorrow, just live for today.  God says “A fool has said there is no God” How could anyone get up in the morning and see the sun rising and look around at the world and creation and know what’s going on or see a little baby born and say there is no God? It’s ridiculous.  God said “Thou are without excuse” some say “Well, science has the answer.”  Let’s see what Timothy 6:20-21 says.  Did you know that God knew there was going to be people that believed in evolution?  (Reads verse)  Science doesn’t have the answer.  Another scripture, 1 Corinthians 2:5 says “Your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”  Man’s wisdom is nothing, God has allowed us to do some things.  God never makes mistakes. “God said it, that settles it.”  Someone says when a man dies, that’s it.  God has something else to say about it “It is appointed once for man to die, after this is judgment.”  I want to tell you this is His book and it’s true.  Man does die but after, he lives for all eternity.  This business of reincarnation is the biggest load of hog wash I’ve ever heard.  People really believe they were something else?

Excuses Excuses Part 2

Some folks need to be teachers so that they can get out of the class they’re interrupting all the time and teach their own class.  I’m a lot better at teaching than I am at trying to listen.  Someone says “I’d like to be a good steward, I know God teaches tithing and I know where the blessings come from, but I just can’t do it.”  But all of a sudden, here comes something they want and the figures start to look better.  Pretty soon they’re able to purchase that item.  It’s pretty interesting how we handle things when we want something.  Somebody says “I would come to night services but I just can’t get out after dark.” But you let something good happen after dark like a party and they’ll go.  We had a lady in Tampa, she was a fine lady but she said I just can’t leave my house at night. When I come home, I’m afraid someone’s broken in. I said “Well, I understand that.”  But, we had a Christmas party and she said, “Will someone come by and pick me up?” She was ready to go.  Sometimes the things we say are a pretext or excuses.  I had a lady from the same church in Tampa, she was very sickly and it seemed like every week we would go by and see how she was doing and had prayer for her.  But then a sales position came available that she wanted and you know what she did?  She got off that sick bed, took that job and did a tremendous job at it.  She used her sickness as an excuse for not coming to church.  We hear excuses today like you just heard.  But the bible says in Romans 14:12, “Everyone will give an account of himself unto God.”  Somebody says I’d like to do some things, but I don’t have any talent.  Listen, God never called on us to do something that he hadn’t already prepared us to do.  You have the ability and God will develop that talent.  Here’s a great excuse I hear a lot.  “I’ll do it later. Don’t give me that class this year, but next year I’ll do it.” But, that’s not what the Lord says, He says “Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for no one knows what the day will bring forth.” How do you know your going to be around next year?  Don’t presume upon God, we don’t know what he has planned for us.  Someone says “Well, I would like to come to church but my family comes first.”  Praise the Lord they aught to, but if you praise the Lord, your family will be first.  First to be saved, first to be blessed, first to enjoy the abundant life and first to have eternal life.  Here’s another person that says “I’ve got a drinking problem” or “I have bad language”.  But listen to what God says in 1 Corinthians 10:13.  God has never allowed anyone to be tempted above what they are able to bear.  I want to go in the Bible and show you some excuses.  (Luke 14:16)  The First man’s excuse was that he had just purchased land and had to go see it.  Now how many of you people in hear would buy some ground sight unseen?  I don’t believe anyone here is that foolish.  He then said I pray thee have me excused.  Another man said I have bought five yolk of oxen and I go to prove them, I pray thee excused. How many of you would buy a new car without seeing or test driving it?  Isn’t that foolish?  Another one said, “I have married a wife and therefore I cannot come.”

Excuses, Excuses =  The words of Rev. Vernon F. Flegle - 2/26/89  Part One

First Baptist Church Moore Haven, FL

Romans 1:18  Have you ever served on a church committee and you get together and you pick names and you go to those people and they said “Now, I’d like to take that class but..” and here comes the excuses, God knew there would be excuses so here he says “You can look around and see the hand work of God” Many times we hear excuses and many times, they’re just excuses.  The one that stays at the top of my list is the man that said he couldn’t come to church because he had dandruff.  I looked up the word excuse and it means a reason presented for default in duty. A defense, a pretext.  Excuses are not genuine, they are a pretext.  I heard about a fellow that said he couldn’t come to church because it was too far to walk and too close to drive.  So he just wasn’t going to show up.  We hear excuses for people not coming to Christ and people not wanting to serve Christ and we’re going to try to deal with those tonight.  But I want you to know, when we stand before God on Judgment Day, excuses aren’t going to stand up. God says everyone will give an account of himself unto the Lord.  Excuses are not new; they came into the world with man.  I went way back into the first of the Bible and I saw that we have two people living in the world and we have some excuses.  When Adam and Eve sinned, God came down and asked them to give an account.  The first time, Adam blames Eve.  (Gen 3:12) We always have our excuses and he’s blaming the woman.  I do that, when things don’t go right at our house I say, “Hazel it’s your fault” some of you men do that too, it’s dangerous but we do it anyway.  Let’s see what the woman had to say in Gen. 3:13.  She couldn’t blame Adam so she blamed the serpent which was Satan.  So we know that excuses have been here from the very beginning.  When God called Moses to lead that great host of people, Moses said “Lord I’m not eloquent, I’m slow to speak” and God gave him a question, God said to him “Moses who made man’s mouth?” So when you have an excuse, remember that God made you an eye, he knows all about it. So when we have excuses about not coming to Christ or not doing His work, they won’t hold up.  God was so wonderful about it, he said “Moses I made your mouth, but I tell you what, because you say you’re slow to speak, I’m going to send your brother Aaron and he’s going to be your speech maker.”  So God has always taken care of those excuses and has an answer for all of them.  Someone says “Well, I’d like to go out visiting, but I just can’t do it,” but here comes a sales job that involves visiting and you know all of a sudden they find out that if they make a sale, its worth ten dollars.  Now, they’re knocking on all the doors.  So many times our excuses are very thin.  “I can’t teach” someone says.  But if you put them in a Sunday School class they’ll be the first to comment on something when it comes up.

JUST FOR TODAY: Do you ever feel like you are surrounded by clouds and darkness? When I get like that the only thing that helps me is reading my Bible and Prayer. To me, it's like visting an old dear friend who cares about me and always lifts me up. Jesus said, "The words that I speak to you are Spirit, and they are Life" (John 6:63). Unlike the Old Testiment times, God does not speak to us with visions and dreams, but by His Words. If you need a good dose of Spirit and Life today from God Almighty, come and get it the simplest way......through His Word to you.......and YOUR words to Him. ~Pastor Lynn

Hebrews 11:8 We have to be like old Abraham; "He went out, not knowing where he was going." The hardest question we ask God is "What do you want me to do?".... We don't know what we are going to do. All that we can be sure of is that God knows what HE is doing!!  ~Pastor Lynn

JUST FOR TODAY: This new year does not have to be like all the rest; same old stuff, different year. If you want to learn something and have a better life you must be "teachable"; willing to walk close to God with an open mind. As Paul writes, you must be "transformed by the renewing of your mind". Your mind will never be renewed if you continue to cling to your old ways. If you think you can keep doing the same old things and get some new results, you're crazy! Give yourself fully to the Lord; He understands you completely and Loves you without end. I've got one for you to try on for size: "My earnest expectation and hope is that I will do nothing, say nothing, or even think anything that I will be ashamed of, but with all boldness I will Glorify Jesus Christ with the way that I Live or Die.".
