Spreading the love of Jesus...the Cowboy Way!

A Moment with Jesus…”Will you be a Light in the Darkness?”

I have to preface this blog my friends with the fact that I have been very tendered with the Lord the past few days so my burden is deep and I have many emotions running through my mind and heart:) Pure joy that God will allow me at times to become so stirred from within that it will absolutely consume me, while also allowing such sorrow to sink in as to the state of the world or my own heart. Either way, I consider it intimacy with the Father that is a delight to my heart. I could burst into tears at any moment during the day for the past few days. Honestly, I was not sure why but then realized God was birthing a new song. A song where He was asking me some questions to ponder…..I had also been discussing unbelief with Him and asking Him to help me have victory over it in some areas of my life. I find I waiver too easily in this area at times.

As I was listening to a message from Lori Salierno who is a speaker at a women’s event I will be leading worship for in April (First Baptist Church of Mixon, Texas), she said something that I just could not shake for days…”we were meant to be light in the darkness…but many times we want to only be light in the light.” I considered the times over my journey with the Lord how He would call me to share with someone at a Taco Bell or IHOP or other places where my mind was focused on daily tasks. He began sharing with me the pain and suffering of those as He saw their hearts and every detail of their lives. She told a story of how Mother Teresa asked her once “Did you give until it hurt?”….”did you give where it cost you something? because if you did not, it does not count…”
He has birthed a desire in my heart to serve until it hurts….to labor for the sake of souls..not for just the sake of this thing we call ministry…but for the salvation of the lost, freedom for the captives, hope for the hopeless, and victory for the Saints. Boy how quickly we do make it about something entirely different. He has also shown me that we have no idea what happens in ones life to shape their personalities, circumstances, insecurities, fears..but He knows exactly…our job is to be faithful and obedient lovers of Jesus……He does the rest:) May you be stirred as I have and may a fire burn in your bones as He asks you these same questions….and may we press on with intent that is no less than the very desires of Christ. May we prepare to share out of the comfort zone….outside the church….out of the pew…and outside Sunday. There are desperate people in need all around us…look around and ask the Lord where you can bring hope of His glory to one on the brink of giving up..

Will you be a light
In the darkness
Will you be a light
In the night
Will you be a light
In the darkness
Will you be a light
And shine me bright.

You see that boy on the corner street
He carries a gun …and a knife…
He don’t really need no reason to kill
He’s angry and always looking for a fight
When he was just a little boy
He watched his daddy beat his mom each night
Will you tell him how I love him so
And one day every wrong will be made right.

Will you be a light
In the darkness
Will you be a light
In the night
Will you be a light
In the darkness
Will you be a light
And shine me bright.

See that homeless man holdin a sign
You say money I can’t give…Although that money’s mine
Once a successful business man

Then he lost his job and then his wife.
It had nothing even to do with him
He was standing up for what was right.
Would you tell him I’ve got a plan
if he will look up into my eyes.

Will you be a light
In the darkness
Will you be a light
In the night
Will you be a light
In the darkness
Will you be a light
And shine me bright.

You see those kids playin in the street
They look dirty, tired, and worn
The oldest one is raising them alone
Cause mom and dad never came home.
He tucks his brothers and his sisters in and hits his knees to pray ….some more.
Could you go tell them How I watched each one as they were being formed.

Will you be a light
In the darkness
Will you be a light
In the night
Will you be a light
In the darkness
Will you be a light
And shine me bright.

Teach me Lord how to see to the heart…give me authentic love for others…and eyes to see a need even if it’s hidden from plain sight..

Love MUCH,

Shelly
