FROM THE PASTOR'S PORCH: Out of the River of Sin!!

My good friend and great preacher, Bobby Boyles, told me a story about how he and his little brother went down to the river one day to play on their swing and do a little swimming.  When they got down to their favorite spot.  Bobby's little brother spotted a big old yeller tom cat snoozing away.... way up on the branch to which they had their swing tied.  Little brother said, “watch this....”.  You know anytime a kid says, “watch this” to another kid, they are up to no good.  Well, little brother starts pulling on that rope swing to bend that branch down, and of course Bobby joined in to help him. When they had that branch bent down a good bit, little brother whispered, “ let it go.”

That big yeller tom cat then became the world's first cat astronaut!  He went sailing way up in the air and when he came back down he landed right in the middle of the river.  Now what do you think the next thing that cat did?    Why, he got out of that water just as fast as he could!  Cats don't like water and they don't hang around playin' in it either.  Now if that cat had just stayed out in the river, put on his sun glasses, and started doin' the back stroke with a big smile on his face, you might wonder if he was a cat at all?  A real cat would not behave in that manner.

A real Christian will not behave in that manner either if they fall into the River of sin, and it happens to all of us at times doesn't it?  Well, doesn't it??  Of course it does.  1 John 1:8 says, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”  But it also says in verse 8, “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (KJV)

So what does all this mean.  It means if you are a real Christian, when you fall  into the river of sin, you won't put on your sun glasses, start doin' the back stroke, and sippin' on a cold beer for long periods of time.  It means you will get out of the river of sin as quick as you possible can and ask the Lord to forgive you.  If you say you Love the Lord on Sunday, but you live in sin the rest of the weak, you are a liar and you better re-evaluate where you stand with the Lord.

My prayer for you today is that you will walk in the light with Jesus. Jesus is the light of life and there is no darkness in him.  If you keep your focus on Him and walk with Him, there will be no darkness in you either!!  It is very hard to fall into the river of sin when walk with the Lord, but if you do......GET OUT OF THERE!!  If you are a real Christian, then act like one.  There is no greater Joy on earth than walking in the Light of His Love!!  Thanks for reading the Pastor's Porch and have a blessed day.  ~Walker
