FROM THE PASTOR’S PORCH: Do it now!!

 

    When I was a little boy, one of the first things that I remember learning was that when my Daddy told me to do something, he meant for me to do it right then; not sometime next week, not after explaining why, not after consulting some other person or authority.  If I responded slowly, or “forgot”, or just plain old disobeyed, the consequences would be quite severe, if you know what I mean. 

    That was the way Louis Madison Walker, my earthly father, operated; He said what he meant and he meant what he said.  Does God, our Heavenly Father operate the same way?  Of course He does!  In Genesis 22:2, God told Abraham, “ Take now your son….”.  “TAKE NOW,” not later.  Isn’t it incredible how we debate with God?  We know something is right, but we make up all kinds of excuses why we don’t respond immediately.  If we are going to climb to the heights that God reveals to us, it can never be done later- it must be done NOW! 

    So how did Abraham respond?  Genesis 22:3 tells us that Abraham rose early in the morning and went to the place where God told him to go.  Abraham did not wait or debate or procrastinate; He simply responded “now” when God spoke to him.  He did not confer with Dear Abby or Dr. Phil or any other “flesh and blood”.  He didn’t even consider his own thoughts, insights, or abilities in the matter.  He just trusted God and obeyed.  Oh, the wonderful Simplicity of Abraham!!

     So what excuses are we offering for not letting the “Rivers of Living Waters” flow through us today?  Right NOW?  Remember, the consequences of not doing it “NOW” are severe.  How many people will die and go to Hell because we delayed or flat refused to tell them about Jesus?  Is that severe enough for us to act now or is that just the preacher’s job??  Are you not enough of a Bible Scholar to be a good witness?  Are you choosing another area of service to serve God?  If you notice in Genesis 22, Abraham did not get to choose what the sacrifice would be; what makes us think that we can?  We must always guard against self-chosen service for God because it will always impair our Service to Him and restrict the flow of “the Living Water”. 

   The time for the GREAT REVIVAL is NOW!!  We can no longer ignore, wait, debate, procrastinate and disobey “The Great Commission”!  The time for Christians to stop hoarding the “living waters” within them is NOW!  It all starts with PRAYER.  The time is NOW for all believers to be praying for lost friends, loved ones, and even strangers to come to know the Lord.  We must stop being so self-centered and being concerned with only our own relationship with the Lord.  Let the Living Waters Flow…… NOW!!!
